Bold. Beautiful. Unexpected

When people think of Virgin Voyages, they often picture loud parties, tattoo parlours, and a sea of twenty-somethings. But let me tell you from first-hand experience — there’s so much more to this cruise line than the headlines suggest.

Virgin Voyages was launched to shake up traditional cruising, and they’ve done just that — but not in the way many expect. This adults-only cruise line (yes, no children onboard!) blends modern luxury with freedom, fun, and a generous dose of personality. From elevated dining experiences curated by top chefs (no buffets or set seating times here) to serene wellness areas and hidden sun decks, the ships are cleverly designed for every kind of traveller — not just the loud and lively.

Perfect for Solo Travellers

Virgin Voyages is a really solo-friendly line. With their Solo Insider cabins, no single supplement on some sailings, and a genuinely inclusive atmosphere, you feel completely at ease travelling on your own. There’s a social vibe, but no pressure — you can join in or dip out, knowing that the space, staff and design all cater beautifully to those of us who love to explore independently, but not alone.

What Makes Each Ship Different

Though Virgin’s fleet is designed to look identical (Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, Resilient Lady, and soon Brilliant Lady), each voyage takes on a life of its own. The destinations, the crew, the vibe on board — they all influence the feel of the cruise. My recent experience on Scarlet Lady was warm, welcoming, and truly surprising in all the best ways. It was a reminder that cruise lines, like people, can’t always be judged by first impressions.

Destinations That Shine

Virgin offers a wide range of itineraries, from Caribbean sun escapes to Mediterranean city hopping, and even longer repositioning journeys that offer a bit of adventure. Highlights include:

  • Overnights in Ibiza, allowing for a relaxed beach day or dinner ashore

  • Stops in boutique ports like Toulon or Cagliari, less crowded than the usual hotspots

  • Beach Club at Bimini, Virgin’s private island experience with the perfect mix of chill and celebration

What’s Always Included

One of the loveliest surprises with Virgin Voyages is just how much is included in the fare. You won’t find sneaky charges for essential extras here. Your cruise includes all dining at over 20 incredible eateries (from Korean BBQ to elegant vegetarian tasting menus), WiFi throughout the ship, tips, fitness classes, and essential drinks like water, soft drinks, tea and coffee. It means you can relax and enjoy your trip without constantly reaching for your purse — something you especially appreciate when travelling solo.

Why I Recommend Them

What stands out most to me — and what I think sets Virgin Voyages apart — is their commitment to doing things with heart. The staff are exceptional, the ships are thoughtfully designed, and the emphasis on wellbeing, sustainability, and service shows. For solo travellers, midlife adventurers, and anyone who’s curious about trying something different — Virgin is well worth a second look.

So if you've ever wondered whether Virgin is your kind of cruise, my honest answer is: it just might be.
